The Royal Canadian Humane Association  has a long and proud history of recognizing deserving Canadians for their acts of bravery. In essence, the Royal Canadian Humane Association is Canada's bravery awards association. Since 1894, the Royal Canadian Humane Association has been awarding medals and testimonial certificates to Canadian heroes.

The Royal Canadian Humane Association's mission is as follows: "To recognize such deeds of heroism, by Canadians in civilian life, who, through their alertness, skill and concern, save or attempt to save a life, especially where those actions lie outside the ordinary duties of the person involved."
